Timed events

These events are judged on agility, speed, & accuracy.
Tie Down Calf Roping
Sponsored by
(This could be you!)
This timed ranch rodeo event, born from cattle care, demands exceptional horse-rider teamwork to quickly rope, tie, and secure a calf for six seconds.
Barrel Racing
Sponsored by
(This could be you!)
Honoring ranching tradition: cowgirls demonstrate horsemanship and speed in a fast-paced barrel race.
Team Roping
Sponsored by
(This could be you!)
Team roping, or heading and heeling, is a ranch-born technique where two riders and horses restrain large livestock by roping the head and heels. It's the only pro rodeo event with equal male and female competition.
Girls Breakaway Roping
Sponsored by
(This could be you!)
The cowgirl and horse race after a calf to rope it as fast as they can. As soon as the rope is taught between the calf and the horse, it snaps (breaks away). This is one of the fastest growing women's rodeo events in the nation.
Bucking Events
These events require courage and skill.

Bareback Bronc Riding
Sponsored by
(This could be you!)
This event is modeled after the longstanding way of getting a horse rideable, where the cowboy would “ride out the bucks”. The rider has 8 seconds to stay on and both rider and horse are judged for agility and form.
Saddle Bronc Riding
Sponsored by
(This could be you!)
Like the bareback bronc riding event, Saddle Bronc Riding is anchored in a history of “riding through” the bucking to have a rideable horse. Both rider and horse are judged on form and time - 8 seconds.
Steer Wrestling
Sponsored by
(This could be you!)
Known for being “the quickest event in rodeo”, this event showcases teamwork, skill and courage. With two riders in the team, one runs alongside a steer guiding it, while the other goes after the steer - jumping off the horse to wrestle the steer to the ground. The fastest time is 2.4 seconds!
Bull Riding
Sponsored by
(This could be you!)
Known as “the most dangerous 8 seconds in sports”, bull riding captures audiences around the nation. This event has origins dating back hundreds of years into the American/Spanish vaqueros culture in handling unruly stock. Riders attempt to stay on a bucking bull for at least 8 seconds.
